Android 2.3 Gingerbread Man Arrived – New Android Version Coming Soon

by Kabir on October 26, 2010

Well we hear that sometime soon a new version of the Android OS will be launched. Known as Android 2.3 Gingerbread, it will be a benchmark and will set new standards for its competitors once it is launched. Besides Android 2.3, news has reached us that Android 3.0 Honeycomb would be the next one in line.

The launch news of Android 2.3 Gingerbread was splashed all over the internet blogs till late Saturday evening, when a giant gingerbread was seen being led to the Googleplex to be kept with his other friends FroYo, Eclair, Donut and Cupcake (each representing different Android versions) on Friday. Earlier, a week prior to the launch of Android 2.2 Froyo, a similar huge statue of Frozen Yogurt (representing FroYo) was put up at Googleplex. So, considering uniformity, the Android 2.3 Gingerbread is not far away.

Coming to the mobile handsets which would have the Gingerbread, are existing models loaded with FroYo. We don’t expect Android 2.1 handsets to be upgraded, however, Samsung Galaxy S can be an exception. As for Android 3.0 Honeycomb, it will be launched sometime in April 2011 and might be used in tablets. Other OS to look forward to are Ice-cream and Jelly-bean, after the launch of Honeycomb.

Major changes that are expected to be on the Android 2.3 are, addition of video calling, Google music and also Google books. To view the video showing the giant Gingerbread being led to the Googleplex, click here.
