While 3G in India is till in its initial stages, BSNL in Kerala took a sharp move by launching BSNL WiMax. This wireless internet provider provides access to high speed wireless internet services. It was launched in Kochi, Kerala. The wireless internet broadband connection promises to provide speed up to 33 mbps, while in the initial stages only 2mbps will be provided, which will be upgraded gradually.

BSNL tariff plans:

BSNL has provided attractive tariff plans and schemes. Extra usage will cost 80 paisa per MB for download or upload. The minimum hire period for the service is 1 month for both limited & unlimited access.

BSNL has aimed at constructing about 1000 WiMax base stations. Similar to its strategy for 3G service, WiMax will be provided at district centers first. It would provide complete 3G and WiMax services by the end of this year.

For accessing WiMax users need to purchase internal and external CPE’s and USB dongle which are available for purchase as well as rent on monthly basis. WiMax works efficiently with both netbooks and laptops.

BSNL WiMax CPE price:

Private players like Tata Indicom and Reliance have already launched their WiMax services in some of the major cities of the country but their coverage is limited and they have no option for unlimited access. BSNL has launched the most cost effective plan for WiMax services and hopefully, its services will be launched across the country in the coming months.
