High Speed 3G Supported HSPA Phone Launched In India By Olive Telecom

iPhone4, iPad2, Android 2.3(Gingerbread), Samsung Galaxy S and many more are in the headlines of every tech and gadgets column of dozens of websites, dailies and magazines. They have enticed the consumer into expecting more from every new gadget release or software update. One amongst them is the Olive Smart V-S300 Smartphonethe first phone in India to have HSPA+ connectivity has been launched on 9th feb by Olive Telecom. It will be Olive’s ‘another first’ since it was also the one to launch Olivepad – the first Android 2.2 tablet in India.

Talking about the HSPA technology, HSPA i.e. High Speed Packet Access network is often called 4G or even some times 3.5G (3.5th generation) technology. It is faster than 3G networks and enables theoretical downlink speeds of up to 14 Mbps and uplink speeds of about 5.8 Mbps. In practical use, this means that a 4 minute song will take about 4 seconds to download. Amazing, right?

This Android touchscreen phone brings a lot of firsts in the markethas HSPA+ connectivity, runs Android 2.3 Gingerbread operating system and is the slimmest Android smartphone(just 9.9mm thick).

As far as the carrier/service provider is concerned, Both Qualcomm and Aircel are launch partners for Olive’s new 4G smartphone in India. It will be powered by Qualcomm’s HSPA+ R7 chipset and will be bundled with Aircel’s network.

The Smartphones market in India has never experienced such interesting times before as India is expected to be among the first Asian countries to use next generation wireless networks such as 4G. Having said that, 3G is a 9-year-old technology and could have been deployed at least four years ago in India. So, the launch of a 4G mobile device is definitely going to shake many heads.
