Ever since the news of Android’s updated OS Android 2.3 Gingerbread hit the Mobile phone industry, most of the Android devices launched with the earlier OS Android 2.2 Froyo claimed that the device is upgradable to the OS 2.3 Gingerbread. Similar was the case with the smartphone LG Optimus One P500, for which the LG officials had promised to provide 2.3 update for the phone as it is ready to handle that, during its launch itself.
The source of this news is the Facebook chat between a LG Optimus One owner/fan and the LG official when On LG’s official Facebook page, the former queried about the Gingerbread OS update and got reply from the latter that the upgrade is expected by the end of May 2011. Here is the screenshot of the Facebook communication between LG officials and a member regarding the same:-
It clearly shows the reply from the LG official on the question about Gingerbread update – “The upgrade of LG Optimus One to android 2.3 is expected by May end & will be available in the Android market.”
LG Optimus One is currrently running vanilla Android 2.2 Froyo OS on 600 MHz ARM processor, 512 MB RAM, 3.0MP back end camera and much more. Of course 3G and Wi-Fi facility is available in the phone.
LG seems to be behind its contemporaries such as Samsung and HTC in providing OS update, but as Optimus One is their one of the popular Android phone in market and cheaper as well. So it may not let many people owning the device keep on waiting for the upgrade for too long.
There is this news as well that the upgrade will come on Android Market and users will be able to install that from there. However, LG Update Tool can also be option for making it available for the masses. Anyhow, we will have to wait for couple of few weeks to get more information in this regard. Stay tuned, we’ll keep you updated.
