by Kabir on November 1, 2010

A short while ago we had published an article on the launch of Android 2.2 Gingerbread. News has come again from a bird that, now Android 2.1 will soon be used on Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 phones (including the X10 mini and mini pro versions) which were previously based on Android 1.6. The Xperia X10 was launched in the Indian market about 6 months ago, soon after its launch, small and cheaper versions of the same were launched (the Xperia X10 mini and X10 mini pro).

The move is a smart one by strategists at Sony Ericsson, especially after the launch of Motorola Droid and Backflip, both of which are based on higher versions of Android and fall in the same category as the Xperia. Besides, changes in the user-interface, there are also certain cool features provided by Android 2.1 like HD-video recording in 720p with continuous auto-focus. Other changes are listed below.

  • New back up and restore application, with extended content back up
  • 5 homescreens for apps, widgets, shortcuts and folders
  • Social phonebook which automatically syncs contact pictures from Facebook and shows when your friends are online

Xperia X10 mini & X10 mini pro

  • New backup and restore application with extended content back up
  • Automatic synchronization of your contact pictures between Facebook and your phone book
