Spice Mobiles Launched Its First Series of Android Based Phones

Spice Mobility Ltd. (SML), which is a medium player in the Indian market, announced plans of launching a whole new range of mobile phones. The latest offerings from SML will be based on Android platform. The Android platform, which has been the base for various topmost mobile phone devices, is known for the vast variety of apps it offers not to forget the UI.

The first mobile phone from SML’s assembly line, the Mi-300 which will be based on Android, will come out very soon and will be priced somewhere around Rs. 9,990/-. Apart from Mi-300, there will also be launch of Mi-410 and Mi-700. SML, Managing Director, Dilip Modi, announced in the capital today, that the Android based phones will be easily available to consumers across 200 Spice outlets spread all over the country.

Talking of features Modi said, the phones will have latest technology features like Wifi connectivity, E-Mail, MS Office, besides more than one lakh downlaodable apps. The phone is also equipped with a 5MP camera. However, the launch of other two handsets, namely, Mi-410 and Mi-700, will be somewhere around October-November.

SML Director & CEO, Kunal Ahooja, added that the Mi-410 and Mi-700 models will be equipped with even better features than the Mi-300 (Besides being an Android 2.1 enabled phone). He said, the Mi-410 might be placed in the Rs. 20,000/- to Rs. 22,000/- bracket while Mi-700 will be priced below Rs. 25,000/-. The phones are powered by US-based Qualcomm Incorporated. Qualcomm President (India and South Asia) Kanwalinder Singh said, ”We are pleased to collaborate with Spice for the launch of 3G HSPA (high speed packet access) smartphones that leverages our Android leadership and are powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon platform and our MSM7xxx series chipsets.”
