With urban, sedentary lifestyle taking a toll on human health and people attracting health problems at a younger age, we also are getting more conscious about the quality and quantity of our food intake. We are on a constant lookout for some help and i am sure that the MealSnap mobile app can help us atleast in one crucial aspect – knowing the calorie count of the meal we take. Yes, this wonderful app can do this.

Just take the pictures of the meals you eat, and then MealSnap app magically tells you what food was in your meal. It will give you a rough estimate of the calories you ate. Food tracking has never been easier.

How MealSnap App Works:

One can simply take a picture of the meal, optionally caption it, and upload it for processing. The app can match the meal from a database of over 500,000 foods and can return with an estimate of the nutritional information, including the calories.

MealSnap App Salient Features:

  • View estimated calories for each meal and the full day.
  • Browse back in time to view your logged meals.
  • Categorize your meals into Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner, etc.

The app was developed by DailyBurn, a fitness social network that has created several other fitness and diet-related applications. DailyBurn CEO Andy Smith said - “The database can quickly help identity the food, how many calories there are, proteins, fat, carbs, vitamins, whatever you may want to know. Users can then choose to share what they’ve eaten on Twitter or FourSquare, leading to social accountability. It’s like a food journal, but easier. All you do is take the picture.”

Available for iPhone since April 2011, the app has now landed on the Windows Phone marketplace. The gap between a cool app showing up on the iPhone and then coming to Windows Phone 7 seems to be getting shorter.

You can try the app for free and then when satisfied, go for it for just $2.99. I think the app is worth the cost as our health is priceless.
