Samsung Mobile Display (SMD), the unit of South Korean giant which manufactures display screens for Samsung appliances will be launching AMOLED screen for its appliances (including mobile phones) within the next two years. AMOLED means Active-Matrix Organic Light-Emitting Diode, using which improves the picture quality drastically. Apparently, switching to AMOLED display, the product’s display becomes unbreakable, unique, clearer and also safer.
It is believed that these AMOLED screens are ultra-tough and highly flexible. This becomes possible by placing a TFT (Thin Film Transistor) on the plastic panel and by replacing the existing vinyl protection sheet by PI (Polyimide) film to avoid residue upon emission of light. Now, don’t think that the glass will stick even if the phone falls down. No doubt it’ll break, but at the end of the day, you will have a working touchscreen underneath the shards.
Well surely this is a step forward for technology towards the next decade of the 21st century. Use of AMOLED screens will certainly be a hit, with many mobile phones already using an AMOLED screen, why should Samsung be left behind. We’ve added a video showcasing a test on an AMOLED screen and other “regular” screens. The result of the test is truly maddening. Check it out by clicking the link below.
