Today, almost all the smartphones running on various OS release their self-made or third-party apps that are mobile device clients for several famous and widely used social-networking platforms like Twitter and Facebook. No one wants to lack behind in this sphere and widen their user-base by targeting the mobile-internet users. The same goes with the recently launched Windows Phone 7 devices(rolled out for general masses earlier in October) which will now feature its own Twitter app.
The hype surrounded around the Windows Phone 7 mobile devices following its release to the consumers give some assurance regarding its response. And for that purpose only, a good quality work in the app sector is hugely expected. So, to go by the tradition of Twitter apps for mobile devices, Twitter has launched its official app, called ‘Twitter for Windows Phone‘ and is available right now for all Windows Phone 7 devices.
Now a mobile app being a Twitter client is not a new thing to hear. The million dollar question is – is there something different in the ‘Twitter For Windows Phone’ app ? The answer is a loud “Yes”. A user interface called ‘Metro’ that is exclusive to this particular app, is a unique way of looking at the information on screen using Pivots, which serve as pages for the app.
The mobile product manager of Twitter, Leland Rechis explained – “Pivots allow you to swipe left or right to view different categories or types of information within a single application. For example, in Twitter for Windows Phone, you can swipe left or right to move from your timeline to mentions to direct messages”.
We can expect a lot of third party apps for Twitter to be developed for the Windows Phone, but the unique UI and the layout specifically is something that just might position the official Twitter for Windows Phone ahead of the others.
